Coordinated Health’s Allentown and Bethlehem Hospitals Receive Top 15% Ranking by Healthgrades in Patient Experience

Allentown, PA (April 4, 2016) – Coordinated Health (CH) announced today that it has achieved the Healthgrades 2016 Outstanding Patient Experience and Patient Safety Excellence Awards. Both CH’s Allentown and Bethlehem Hospitals ranked among the top 15 percent in the nation in Patient Experience, and the CH Bethlehem Hospital achieved top 10 percent status in Patient Safety.

“I am incredibly proud of the physician-led teams of nurses, physical therapists and surgical technologists who bring world-class care to our hospital patients every day,” said Emil DiIorio, Chief Executive Officer, Coordinated Health.

Healthgrades evaluated patient experience performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 measures, using data collected from a 32-question patient experience survey of the hospital’s own patients. The survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital. Question topics range from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to factors such as pain management and responsiveness to patients’ needs.

In addition, patients treated in the CH Hospitals were, on average:

  •  40.2% less likely to experience an accidental puncture or laceration during a procedure, than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals.
  •  44.2% less likely to experience a collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest, than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals.
  •  54.4% less likely to experience catheter-related blood stream infections, than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals.
  •  50.4% less likely to experience pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital, than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals.[1]

“Consumers are increasingly using patient experience and satisfaction as a measure to both evaluate hospitals and to select where they want to obtain care,” said Evan Marks, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthgrades. “We commend those hospitals that have achieved the Healthgrades 2016 Outstanding Patient Experience Award and Patient Safety Excellence Award for delivering superior patient care experiences during their hospital stay.”

Coordinated Health physicians follow a consistent, system-wide protocol to achieve high patient satisfaction and safety. The protocol tightly manages and customizes each individual patient’s pain management and rehabilitation needs.
