Zach Rey is no stranger to sports injuries. The 2012 Lehigh graduate and former NCAA wrestling champion has had several wrestling related injuries, including an ACL tear that occurred during the NCAA’s. Like most athletes the most important factor for Zach was getting his injury taken care of so that he could return to the sport he loved, wrestling.

Fortunately, Coordinated Health Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Daniel Terpstra works with Lehigh University athletics and was on hand to treat Zach’s injury. Zach underwent surgery to repair his torn ACL and began a vigorous six day a week physical therapy regimine to build up his muscle mass and regain the flexibility he lost.

Zach says Dr. Terpstra, who is a former wrestler, was able to relate to him because he understood the mechanics of the sport and how the injury occurred. He also says that it was nice to be able to see him on the sidelines of the matches.

“Dr. Terpstra was at most of our matches so if I had any questions or any problems he was right there, which was really helpful,” says Zach.

Now fully recovered, Zach is looking forward to a bright future in wrestling. He plans on going to the world team trials this summer and hopefully competing in the World Championships later this year. His ultimate goal is competing in the 2016 Olympics and he claims that goal wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Dr. Terpstra.

“Dr. Terpstra and his team have done a great job on getting me back and helped me in a big way get ready for the 2016 Olympics,” says Zach.
