Breast surgeon Dr. Cara Guilfoyle leads the celebrated Coordinated Health Breast Center with Dr. Mark Gittleman. The center won the 2015 Healthcare Hero award for women's health and wellness, a recognition presented each year by Lehigh Valley Business' independent panel of healthcare leaders to the person or group in the greater Lehigh Valley making the biggest difference in the field.
While the prospect of facing breast cancer can be daunting, Dr. Guilfoyle is always impressed with the strength and courage her patients summon.
“I always try to instill optimism in my patients and convince them that they have the confidence and strength they need to face breast cancer," she says. "In the moments of truth, when my patients are faced with the challenges of chemotherapy and surgery, they dig deep and find the strength to fight. To fight like any of these women is quite impressive."
Other conditions Dr. Guilfoyle treats include cysts, abscesses, and nipple discharge. She performs lumpectomies, mastectomies, lymph node biopsies, as well as minimally invasive biopsies.
In her spare time, Dr. Guilfoyle enjoys an array of outdoor activities including mountain biking, running and competitive adventure racing.
