Definition

Blackheads are tiny, dark spots on the skin. They are caused by a small plug in the opening of a follicle (pore).  Blackheads are also called open comedones.

  • Acne
  • Whiteheads

Considerations

Blackheads can be treated with creams containing salicylic acid or tretinoin.
