On May 25, Coordinated Health held their third annual Athlete of the Year Banquet, which was the culminating event to the Athlete of the Year scholarship program sponsored by Coordinated Health and The Morning Call. The event, hosted by The Morning Call sports writer Keith Groller, honored 31 student athletes and named one lucky athlete as the Athlete of the Year and winner of a $10,000 scholarship.

The event featured several speakers including CEO Emil DiIorio, MD, who spoke about digital innovation as it relates to student athletes. Other speakers included Vice President of Outpatient Operations Jennifer Roeder, 2014 Athlete of the Year winner Zach Bradley, 2015 Athlete of the Year Winner Amber Thomas, Coordinated Health Orthopedic Surgeon Nick Slenker, M.D. and Parkland Athletic Trainer Aaron Boggs.

The keynote speaker was seven-time Olympic Medalist and health advocate Amanda Beard. Beard spoke about her journey as an Olympic swimmer and how she overcame her anxiety to find happiness.

The event concluded with Evan Culver, a Saucon Valley senior and three-sport athlete, winning the Athlete of the Year title for his stand out football season. Culver had 2,934 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns last season and will be showing his talent on the field next year when he joins Kutztown University’s football team.

As a special surprise, Culver’s father, who lives in Seattle, surprised his son by showing up for the event after he won the award.

The Athlete of the Year recipient is chosen based on a three-way vote between The Morning Call, Coordinated Health and online votes. The Morning Call and Coordinated Health base their vote on Academics, Leadership and Athletics.
