Coordinated Health, part of Lehigh Valley Health Network, will hold its seventh annual Athlete of the Year awards as a virtual event, broadcast live on PBS39 May 19 at 7 p.m. Former captain of the United States women’s national soccer team and three-time Olympic gold medalist Christie Pearce Rampone will speak during the event, providing inspiration to student-athletes at a time when it’s needed the most.

The Athlete of the Year event is the culminating celebration of the Athlete of the Week program, sponsored by Coordinated Health. The 35-week program, featured in The Morning Call, gives the public an opportunity to vote for three male and female student-athletes weekly. Each weekly winner receives a $500 scholarship and appears on a PBS39 news segment.

In addition to the weekly scholarships, Coordinated Health awards one female and one male Athlete of the Week winner with a $10,000 scholarship. This year’s winners will be announced live during the broadcast May 19. All weekly winners are eligible for the top prize, which is determined based on academics, community leadership and athletic accomplishments.

In addition to the Athlete of the Year winners, other non-monetary awards announced during the broadcast will include Comeback Athlete of the Year, Coaches of the Year presented by The Morning Call, Legacy Award presented by PBS39 and Community Support Award.

“Athlete of the Year has been an important part of Coordinated Health’s sports medicine program for seven years, and we are excited to continue to honor area student-athletes along with our partners at Lehigh Valley Health Network,” says Coordinated Health –LVHN President Amy Nyberg.

The program is supported by PBS39 as the Premier Production Partner and The Morning Call as the Premier Media Partner.

“We are looking forward to celebrating these extraordinary senior athletes and utilizing this new virtual platform. While we won’t have a traditional live audience, we have some innovative ways to include the athletes and make this an interactive event,” says Yoni Greenbaum, Chief Content Officer at Lehigh Valley Public Media.

Coordinated Health’s Athlete of the Year is the region’s largest scholarship program for student-athletes with over $250,000 in scholarships being awarded since it began in 2013.

Coordinated Health Re-opening Locations

Coordinated Health (CH) has opened our Allentown hospital to perform postponed elective surgeries, and our Bethlehem hospital will open on May 11. In addition, we are expanding office hours across regional locations in order to provide the care patients need while keeping everyone safe through reliable COVID-safe practices.

COVID-SAFE CH practices

Your safety is our No. 1 priority in our Coordinated Health practices. We guarantee same-day appointments, virtually or in-person, and have many measures in place to protect you:

  • Care team members have their temperature taken at the start of every shift.
  • We ask you to wait in your vehicle and call the office from the parking lot to let us know you have arrived. You will receive a call when it’s time to come inside for your appointment.
  • You must wear a face mask unless you have a medical reason for not being able to do so.
  • We screen patients and visitors for symptoms of COVID-19 when you come into our office.
  • Waiting rooms are used sparingly due to social distancing needs caused by COVID-19. We promote social distancing by spacing out seating in waiting areas. If someone brings you to your appointment (one person per patient), he or she can come inside to accompany you for your visit with the provider, wait in the waiting room if space is available, or wait in their vehicle.
  • You see how our team is cleaning and disinfecting all areas to keep them COVID-safe for you.
  • We continue to recommend virtual care options, like telephone visits and video visits for care that does not require an in-person appointment

Orthopedic Virtual Care Expands at LVHN

Coordinated Health
EmailTwitterFacebookLinkedIn

As an innovator in digital care, Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) is offering patients expanded options in virtual orthopedic care from Lehigh Valley Physician Group (LVPG) and Coordinated Health orthopedic specialists. “Since late March, LVPG and Coordinated Health combined have completed more than 7,500 virtual visits for patients who have musculoskeletal conditions,” says orthopedic surgeon Eric Lebby, MD, Chief, Division of Orthopedic Surgery at LVHN. “We want the community to know they always have 24/7 access to an orthopedic specialist as well as numerous virtual access points to receive the care they need and deserve.”

The LVHN team of over 60 orthopedic surgeons, led by Eric Lebby, MD, and Wayne Luchetti, MD, Chair of Orthopedics for Coordinated Health, has been focused on providing high quality orthopedic patient care and continued access during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

LVPG Orthopedics and Sports Medicine offers virtual visits through MyLVHN, the network’s patient portal. Patients can have an E-Visit with their LVPG provider by selecting that option on MyLVHN and completing the E-Visit form. To request an LVHN Video Visit, patients can call the practice office directly or call LVPG Orthopedics and Sports Medicine’s 24/7 call line at 610-402-8900. An answering service is available after hours and an LVPG orthopedic specialist will return a call to the patient.

Coordinated Health recently introduced their virtual orthopedic injury center which provides the community with the same high level of care they have come to expect, but instead of a face-to-face visit, the care happens through a secure digital platform. Patients can receive care for orthopedic injuries like sprains, strains, suspected fractures and breaks and back pain. By using virtual visit technology, Coordinated Health is helping reduce a patient’s potential exposure to COVID-19 by eliminating any unnecessary trips outside the home.

“Patients who have an injury or significant pain need to be evaluated and this technology allows us to do that without the patient having to come into one of our centers, unless absolutely necessary,” Luchetti says. “People may be avoiding necessary care due to concerns about contracting coronavirus, and that can lead to long-term problems. Now we can evaluate the extent of their injury without any risk of exposure.”

In order to access the Coordinated Health virtual injury center, patients can simply call the injury hotline 24/7 at 610-861-8111. The call will be transferred to a Coordinated Health orthopedic specialist who will initiate a telemedicine visit right then. Telemedicine visits can be done securely via phone or video. If it’s determined that patients need further care, they will be referred to the nearest Coordinated Health injury center or, if absolutely necessary, the emergency room.

Virtual orthopedic visits are covered by most insurances. Patients with questions regarding coverage of virtual visits should contact their insurance provider.

What This Important Announcement Means to you

With formal closing complete, Coordinated Health is now part of Lehigh Valley Health Network. The two organizations share a common vision focused on population health and demonstrate a strong passion for delivering high-value health care. Combining them is an opportunity to expand on their proven integrated health care models.

“Together, Lehigh Valley Health Network and Coordinated Health have the highest orthopedic success rates in the region and the most fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine specialists, caring for everyone from pee-wee players to Division 1 and pro athletes with unmatched expertise,” said Brian Nester, DO, MBA, FACOEP, LVHN’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

I’m a patient at Coordinated Health, what does this mean for me?

You will continue to see the same Coordinated Health (CH) physicians and care teams in the same locations. Current Coordinated Health offices and hospitals will continue normal operations with no immediate changes to the service and access patients are accustomed to receiving at CH and LVHN. While it will take time to complete a comprehensive integration plan, our focus remains on providing innovative orthopedic care, superior access and great service to the community.

The first visible signs of the integration will be new signage and marketing materials that communicate Coordinated Health is now part of Lehigh Valley Health Network. In the future, we will streamline care and communication with one electronic medical record through Epic.

In addition to CH caregivers and locations remaining the same, you will have the support of the strength and breadth of LVHN, including:

The community’s only children’s hospital at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital, which offers 30 specialties and the only Children’s ER at LVH–Cedar Crest and Children’s ExpressCARE at the Health Center at Palmer Township

Lehigh Valley Heart Institute, which has one of the nation’s best heart attack survival rates

Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute, a member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance which offers access to breakthrough clinical trials and collaboration on leading-edge care

Lehigh Valley Institute for Surgical Excellence, which performs the most complex surgeries close to home and gets you back to health faster

What impact will this have on my community?

Together, LVHN and CH offer the communities we serve the following:

The highest orthopedic success rates in the region

The most fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine specialists, caring for everyone from pee-wee players to Division 1 and pro athletes with unmatched expertise

CH established the first sports medicine program in the region, and CH sports medicine physicians dedicate more than 1,000 hours annually to “on-field” coverage, providing injured athletes the fastest access to the best care.

Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest is the community’s only nationally ranked hospital in orthopedics on U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” list.

LVHN has been recognized for having the lowest complication rates in the state for knee and hip replacements by the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP).

For 30 years, CH has been a regional leader in orthopedics, sports medicine and workplace injury care in the Lehigh Valley and consistently ranks in the top 5 percent nationally for joint replacements and spinal fusion by Healthgrades.

Who will lead Coordinated Health?

Amy Nyberg will serve as President of Coordinated Health. Since 2013, Nyberg has been leading CH’s innovation and growth strategy, first as Chief Integration Officer and most recently as President and Chief Operating Officer. “The union of our organizations affirms our commitment to provide world-class orthopedic, sports medicine and specialty care to our patients and community, and we are very excited to have our talented team at Coordinated Health join the region’s most trusted and awarded health network,” Nyberg said.

Coordinated Health’s Bethlehem Hospital Named “America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement” for Second Consecutive Year

Coordinated Health

New report identifies Coordinated Health’s Bethlehem Hospital among the top hospitals nationally for excellence in Joint Replacement

Bethlehem, PA (October 22, 2019) – Coordinated Health’s Bethlehem Hospital is one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement according to a national study by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions using Medicare data.

Coordinated Health’s Bethlehem Hospital was also recognized for the following clinical achievements:

  • Recipient of Healthgrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award for 2 Years in a Row (2019-2020)
  • Named Among the Top 5% in the Nation for Joint Replacement for 2 Years in a Row (2019-2020)
  • Five-Star Recipient for Total Knee Replacement for 3 Years in a Row (2018-2020)
  • Recipient of the Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award
  • Named Among the Top 10% in the Nation for Patient Safety in 2019

The achievement is part of findings released today in the Healthgrades 2020 Report to the Nation. The new report demonstrates the importance of hospital quality to both hospital leaders and consumers. Additionally, from 2016 through 2018, patients treated at hospitals receiving the America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement Award have, on average, a 62.5 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award. And patients treated at hospitals that did not receive the award were 2.67 times more likely to experience a complication in the hospital than if they were treated at hospitals that received the award*.

“We are very proud to once again receive this recognition from Healthgrades. It’s a clear indication that when it comes to joint replacement, we are among the best in the nation,” said Dr. Wayne Luchetti, Chief of Staff, Chief of Surgery, and Chair of Orthopedics at Coordinated Health. “Our success has been driven by our continued focus on delivering the highest quality care for our patients.”

“This distinguished designation by Healthgrades could only be possible thanks to the outstanding contributions of our highly-skilled physician teams, nurses, physical therapists and hospital staff,” added Christine Biege, Chief Nursing Officer and Hospital Administrator at Coordinated Health.

For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluated outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 15 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.

“As consumers navigate their health, it is important to consider a number of factors, including hospital quality, before deciding where to access care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Healthgrades’ America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement recognizes those hospitals, like Coordinated Health’s Bethlehem Hospital, that have proven their dedication to quality care and exceptional outcomes over time and we applaud their efforts and achievement.”

Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions using Medicare data. Coordinated Health’s Allentown Hospital achievement is part of findings released today in the Healthgrades 2020 Report to the Nation, which underscores the importance of hospital quality to both consumers and hospital executives.

Coordinated Health’s Allentown Hospital was also recognized for the following clinical achievements:

  • Five-Star Recipient for Spinal Fusion Surgery for 3 Years in a Row (2018-2020)
  • Five-Star Recipient for Total Hip Replacement for 4 Years in a Row (2017-2020)
  • Five-Star Recipient for Total Knee Replacement for 2 Years in a Row (2019-2020)
  • Recipient of the Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award™
  • Named Among the Top 10% in the Nation for Patient Safety in 2019

The variation in hospital quality can have a significant impact on the quality of care a patient receives. From 2016 through 2018, patients treated at hospitals receiving the Joint Replacement Excellence Award have, on average, a 59.7 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award. And patients treated at hospitals that did not receive the award are, on average, 2.48 times more likely to experience a complication in the hospital than if they were treated at hospitals that did receive the award.*

“Our organization is extremely proud of the high quality care that we deliver to our patients every day,” said Emil DiIorio, Coordinated Health’s Chief Executive Officer. “It’s a very important benchmark that we work hard to achieve.”

“The personalized care that you receive at Coordinated Health is hard to find and the proof is in our excellent outcomes for our patients,” said Dr. Christopher Wagener, Department Chair Orthopedic Spine Surgery and Vice Chief of Staff at Coordinated Health. “It’s a testament to our highly qualified spine surgery team to be recognized by Healthgrades for the third year in a row.”

For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluated comparative outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 15 states.

“The hospitals that stand out for exceptional performance in Joint Replacement should be commended for their long-standing commitment to quality,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “As consumers are increasingly savvy when it comes to finding and selecting a hospital, patients can be confident when they select a hospital, like Coordinated Health’s Allentown Hospital, that has achieved this Healthgrades recognition.”

Lehigh Valley Health Network has signed a binding Letter of Intent to acquire the assets of Coordinated Health, pending reviews by the Federal Trade Commission and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office. If cleared to close, Coordinated Health will become part of LVHN.

“This proposed union further affirms our commitment to providing world-class orthopedic and specialty care to our patients and community,” Brian Nester, DO, President and CEO of LVHN said. “LVHN and Coordinated Health share a common vision focused on population health, one that is rooted in being a partner and advocate in our patients’ health journeys. We are very excited by the opportunity to have the talented team at Coordinated Health join the region’s most trusted and awarded health network.”

The enthusiasm is shared by Dr. Emil Dilorio, Chairman and CEO, Coordinated Health.

“Coordinated Health and LVHN share a strong passion for delivering high value healthcare and combining these two organizations is an opportunity to expand our proven integrated healthcare model. For 30 years, we have delivered health care differently, delivering more value by narrowing our service lines and by reaching out to our patients in terms of accessibility. We have every confidence that LVHN will continue to expand this legacy,” Dilorio said.

LVHN and CH will remain separate and independent health systems while they await these government reviews.
