Allentown, PA (November 28, 2018) – Coordinated Health’s Allentown hospital is among the top 10 percent in the nation for knee replacements and hip replacements, according to a national study by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. Coordinated Health’s Allentown hospital was also recognized for the following clinical achievements:

  • Recipient of the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™
  • Named Among the Top 15% in the Nation for Outstanding Patient Experience in 2018

“Our team at Coordinated Health is dedicated to excellence every single day, and this award honors their dedication,” said Dr. Leo Scarpino, Chief of Surgery, Chair of Orthopedics. “Our rapid recovery hip and knee replacement program is proven to improve patient outcomes with lower complications, and this is validation of that approach.”

These achievements are part of findings featured in the Healthgrades 2019 Report to the Nation, which found that clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at almost 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions, as well as reporting on outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 15 states and the District of Columbia.

This variation in care has a significant impact on health outcomes. From 2015 through 2017, patients treated at hospitals receiving the Joint Replacement Specialty Excellence Award have, on average, a 59.5 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award. And patients treated at hospitals that did not receive the award are, on average, 2.47 times more likely to experience a complication in the hospital than if they were treated at hospitals that did receive the award.

“With so many choices for care, consumers often find that their health journey can be difficult to navigate,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Healthgrades. “Information about hospital quality is helpful as they make decisions for their health, and Coordinated Health – Allentown has distinguished itself as an exceptional organization for Joint Replacement.”
