On Valentine’s Day weekend, Dr. Stephen Brigido and a team of Coordinated Health researchers attended the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) Annual Scientific Conference in Austin, TX.  The team consisted of:

  • Stephen Brigido – Section Chief – Foot and Ankle Reconstruction
  • Jennifer Mulhern – Former CH Fellow
  • Jake Summers – Current CH Fellow
  • Nicole Protzman – Research Associate

Jennifer Mulhern presents her manuscript titled, “Is subtalar joint cartilage resection necessary for tibio-talo-calcaneal arthrodesis via intramedullary nail? A multi-center evaluation.”

N. Jake Summers presents his manuscript titled: “Investigating the Effects of Cold Plasma in the Management of Full-Thickness Wounds in a Diabetic Murine Model.”

The team received two honorable mention awards for research conducted at Coordinated Health. Approximately 75 papers were submitted to the meeting, and only 28 were accepted for presentation. Of the 28 papers, only 3 received awards, and 2 were from the CH team. The papers that received recognition were:

  • The preparation of the subtalar joint in tibia-talar-calcaneal arthrodesis using nailing systems
  • The role of harmonic cold plasma in wound healing in a murine mice model

In addition to the research papers, the team presented 7 research posters that were all well-received. Dr. Brigido also personally delivered 3 podium presentations at the meeting:

  • The role of growth factors in bone healing during arthrodesis of the extremity joints
  • Treatment of tendon injuries in an athlete and the benefits of bipolar radiofrequency
  • The management of complications in ankle arthroplasty

As a result of the team’s work, Coordinated Health was well-represented on a national stage. Dr. Brigido was quoted in a news release from the ACFAS regarding regenerative medicine for foot and ankle injuries, which was distributed to the public at large. Check out the article here.

Kudos to Dr. Brigido and his team for their well-deserved national recognition!
